Join us for our June Book Club!

The June book club selection is The Givers: Wealth, Power & Philanthropy in a New Gilded Age by David Callahan. Join us via Zoom on June 24th at 4 pm for a conversation about the role of wealth in public life, its impact on democracy, and on addressing the most pressing issues of our time. The book is available on Amazon, Audible, or through your local library or favorite book store.

While we hope you will find time to tackle all, or even part of, The Givers, we know that busy lives mean it can be difficult to carve out reading time. If you only have 30 minutes, you can hear David Callahan talk about The Givers at this author event hosted by the Free Library of Philadelphia. Either way, we hope to see you on June 24th!

This event is hosted by Apra Missouri/Kansas. A Zoom link will be sent with your registration.

Join us for a monthly "Lunch & Learn" on the third Friday of each month, from 12:00-1:00 Central!

Grab your lunch and hop on Zoom to chat with colleagues and industry leaders. Each month, we'll pick a topic and bring in a speaker to share ideas and knowledge, and then we'll open the floor for questions and conversation. The Zoom link will be sent in your registration email.

Our July topic is Cryptocurrency! Every day, another cryptocurrency finds its way into the headlines, like Bitcoin and Elon Musk, and most recently Dogecoin. There are debates about the volatility, the security, and more. However, many nonprofits have decided to see cryptocurrencies as a new giving vehicle and are choosing to accept cryptocurrency donations. This discussion will explore what cryptocurrencies are and how they work as well as how they interact with the philanthropic sector. We'll talk about cryptocurrency donors, companies and exciting new hybrid giving vehicles. Come and talk to us about how your organization is thinking about cryptocurrencies or how you wish they were thinking about them!

Our guest speaker will be Elisa Shoenberger. Elisa is a researcher consultant for Aspire Research Group. She has over eight years of experience in the fundraising sector working as a prospect researcher at Loyola University Chicago and benchmarking analyst at Grenzebach Glier and Associates.

Elisa earned her MBA in marketing and operations management from Loyola, a MA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a BA in history from the University of Chicago.

She has written about philanthropy for Inside Philanthropy, Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Daily Dot, Brainfacts.org, and others. Through Aspire, she wrote In Good Company: A Guide to Corporate Fundraising. She has published with the WIRED Magazine, Boston Globe, Huffington Post, Business Insider, and many others. She writes regularly for Book Riot and Loop News. She is also the co-editor of the Antelope: A Journal of Oral History and Mayhem.
